FitSummit 2021 Snapshot – Part 1

FitSummit 2021 Snapshot – Part 1

The recent FitSummit 2021 featured some great speakers and we wanted to give you some nuggets on the business of fitness franchising and on post-COVID member behaviour that we picked up from two expert speakers. This is part one from Han Walet, Master Franchisor SNAP Fitness Benelux.

What is FitSummit?

FIT Summit is the business network for health, fitness, wellness industry, with a global reach and a special focus on the Asia-Pacific region. It represents multiple industry pillars: fitness, wellness, corporate wellness, hospitality/spa, health and sports. The organisation looks to connect brand owners and managers to each other, as well as technology companies, equipment providers, distributors, suppliers, insurers, advisors and investors, to discuss market trends, industry challenges, investment outlooks and new business opportunities. We were invited to attend by our software partner in RISE, Virtuagym.

Han Walet CEO SNAP Fitness Benelux

Han is the Master Franchisor for the SNAP Fitness franchise for Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) and talked through the general story of SNAP Fitness and the factors that pushed change in the branding & product.

COVID-19 had the effect of pushing the digital platform that developed quickly but as the restrictions were lifted and risk decreased, the parent company in the USA decided that. although the digital platform pivot helped engagement during lockdown, the physical locations were what they wanted to concentrate on.

But one thing to come out of the pandemic that is staying, is the rise in the importance of mental health. When customers came back to locations, it was clear the gyms were a central point of expertise and also other people were there; it was social and people craved that interaction.

Post-covid the buzz is around feeling better and stronger, and having fun so trainers now need to have a holistic approach, not just there to give out instructions on technique. Members expect support everywhere and anytime of day, this is also a fall out from the pandemic.  Tech like Myzone makes this possible and is something SNAP are intergrating with to provide a more holistic approach. His phrase was

Fitness should be simple because simple makes it stick.

Han Walet – FitSummit 2021

SNAP also changed the marketing vernacular from Faster and Harder to more Fun, Feel good and Good Vibes.

There was a big change in marketing images to focus more on member featured content.  Seeing people like themselves up there really helped conversion. Offers were switched away from discount with a “try before buy” or “feel great or your money back”.

What is in the future he asked himself?  His answer? No one knows but feels like it will feature digital.  But best of all more people are exercising and that is good for everybody.
