Don’t Go Breaking My Heart…We Won’t!
We love hearts! That is why we put your heart at the core of what we do. But why is the heart, and more specifically the heart rate, important?
Let’s start with what people try to define fitness as:
Fitness is defined as being in good physical shape or being suitable for a specific task or purpose.
Are You Feeling Fit?
When you feel in good physical shape you can go a brisk walk uphill and not feel the least bit out of breath; you can dance and keep going for a few hours; you can play a decent game of badminton and not be ruined. It is all those things, and feeling good in your day-to-day activities.
This feeling happens because when you are fit, the heart and lungs are delivering oxygen efficiently and quickly to your muscles so they can keep working. AND taking away the waste products like lactic acid so you don’t get a build-up and have to stop your activity. This is where the training system comes in, especially heart rate based training.
How Do You Train Your Heart?
The good news is that heart monitors have got a lot more accurate, these are things you can wear in a strap across your chest or a device on your wrist. In the early days of this type of tech, it was difficult to get anything like accurate readings but here at RISE we use Myzone heart rate monitors. These are one of the best around and this is where the magic starts.
We make sure all our members are working at exactly the right heart rate for THEM. This means that each time you complete a workout session with your RISE coach they know exactly what intensity you need to work because they can see it on a screen; this gets you the results you want. But what happens to that heart activity when you are not at a session? This is where RISE really is different to everything you have tried before.
More Active, More of the Time
Another great ‘side effect’ of the Myzone monitors is that you get effort points (called MEPs) for activities you do when not at a session! Every week the coach makes sure you are clocking up the MEPs and this helps you become more active, more of the time. What does this do? This means that you burn more energy evenly throughout the month and this helps with both getting fit and if you want to lose body weight.
Our fun weekly challenges and progress check in reviews means we keep you on track and instead of getting fed up after 3 weeks you will see the progress happening and want some more!
